A few days after whittling the first sets of skate deck fins, I shared what I was working on with my friend Natas Kaupas. I know Natas as a down right humble & approachable dude, committed surfer/skater and top shelf creative, but he’s probably most widely known for his contributions in pioneering the street skating movement during the late eighties & early ninetys. Do yourself a favor and youtube Natas’ video part from Santa Cruz Skateboard’s 1989 skate vid – Streets of Fire.
Natas instantly took to the skate fin idea and was equally excited to order up a new board for summer. He was also cool enough to send me a couple signed limited reissue Designarium/Santa Cruz skate decks featuring the artwork from his original Santa Monica Airlines signature model skates. Here are a couple images.
Natas & I have also been discussing some experimental board concepts to go along with the fins. This one is going to get interesting.
More to come.
